Thirty questions sits between a quick check and a full test, and it is a length many unit quizzes and homework reviews settle on. This sheet keeps all thirty in a single column, so students read straight down the page and the numbering never jumps.
At this length one column still fits on the page without shrinking the bubbles, so there is no reason to split the grid. You get a plain layout, a header block for names, and the largest bubbles this site uses.
Who this sheet is for
- Unit quizzes and homework reviews
- Timed practice sections of a lesson length
- Teachers who prefer one column to two
- Mixed-ability groups where a simple grid helps
When to choose this sheet, and when not to
Choose thirty questions when twenty is too few to cover a unit and fifty is too many for a lesson. A single column also helps when students lose their place easily, since there is no column break to get wrong.
The cost of one column is height: thirty rows run down most of the page, with rows 6.4 mm apart. If you want a shorter, more compact grid, the two-column 40-question sheet gives the same bubble size in half the height per column.
Because this sheet reaches near the bottom of the page, it is more sensitive than the shorter sheets to printers that add their own margin. A trial print at actual size will show you in seconds.
An example
A teacher sets a thirty-item review at the end of each unit. A class set is printed in one job for each unit, and the stack of completed sheets is graded with a punched overlay.
How to print this at 100% scale
- Open the PDF and choose File → Print.
- Set the scale to Actual size or 100%. Turn off “Fit to page”, “Shrink to fit” and any borderless option.
- Set the paper size to US Letter (8.5" × 11").
- Print one copy and check the four corner squares: each should sit about 5 mm (3/16 inch) in from the paper edge.
Why the fuss? A page scaled by even two percent moves every bubble slightly, and a camera grader measures where a bubble should be. Print at true size and the grid is where the grader expects it; print scaled and it may not be.
Printing note. Thirty rows take up most of the page height, so check that your printer has not added a margin that pushes the last rows toward the bottom edge. Print at 100%.
How to use it
- Print one copy per student at 100% scale, single-sided.
- Have students fill in the header block first — name, date and class, and the Student ID grid if this sheet has one.
- For each question, fill one bubble completely. A half-filled bubble is a common cause of a mark being missed, and an X or a check mark can be another.
- Erase cleanly and completely. Smudged erasures can read as filled bubbles to a camera.
- Grade against an answer key — see the guide on making a test key overlay.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a 30 question answer sheet template?
Yes, this one: thirty numbered rows with A to D bubbles on US Letter, free as a PDF with no signup.
Why is a 30-question sheet one column when 50 is two?
Thirty rows fit in one column at the largest bubble size. Beyond about thirty-four rows a single column starts to shrink the bubbles, so the longer sheets use two columns.
Can I print this on A4?
The generator can build the same layout on A4. There is no ready-made A4 sheet for thirty questions.
How do I grade 30 sheets quickly?
Make a punched overlay from a blank copy and count what shows through each hole, or use any grading method you already trust. See the grading guide for how they compare.
This is an original, generic layout for classroom and practice use. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or compatible with any commercial scanning brand or any official exam. Always test-print one copy before running a class set.
