25-Question Bubble Answer Sheet (A–D, A4)

Drawn for A4 paper, 210 by 297 mm, not shrunk from Letter. Twenty-five rows run down a single column with A to D on each, and bubbles are 5.3 mm across. A correct print at actual size keeps every dimension as designed. The PDF is free, with a name and date header.

This is the A4 version of the twenty-five-question sheet, for classrooms, tutors and homeschoolers outside the United States whose printers take A4 as standard. A4 is a little narrower than US Letter but noticeably taller, so the same twenty-five rows fit with slightly more air between them.

Printing on the paper your printer expects avoids a common printing problem: a Letter-sized design scaled down to fit A4, which shrinks every bubble and quietly changes the geometry a camera grader depends on. This sheet is drawn at A4 from the start, at true size.

Who this sheet is for

  • Classrooms and tutors using A4 printers
  • International schools and schools abroad
  • Homeschoolers outside the US
  • Anyone who has had a Letter sheet scaled down by accident

When to choose this sheet, and when not to

Use the A4 version whenever your printer's default paper is A4, which is the case in most countries outside North America. The alternative, printing a US Letter file onto A4, forces the printer to shrink the page by roughly three percent, and a shrunken page is a common reason bubbles end up in the wrong place.

A4 is slightly narrower and noticeably taller than Letter, so this layout has marginally more vertical room between rows and marginally less width. With only one column that costs nothing: the sheet still fits on one page with bubbles at the largest size this site uses.

If you teach in both systems, keep both versions of your usual sheet so you never have to rescale. The Letter equivalent of this page is the 25-question sheet with the same header.

An example

A homeschool parent in a country that uses A4 prints a 25-item weekly check each Friday on the family printer. Setting the viewer to A4 and actual size means the corner squares land about 5 mm (3/16 inch) from each edge.

  1. Open the PDF and choose File → Print.
  2. Set the scale to Actual size or 100%. Turn off “Fit to page”, “Shrink to fit” and any borderless option.
  3. Set the paper size to A4 (210 × 297 mm).
  4. Print one copy and check the four corner squares: each should sit about 5 mm (3/16 inch) in from the paper edge.

Why the fuss? A page scaled by even two percent moves every bubble slightly, and a camera grader measures where a bubble should be. Print at true size and the grid is where the grader expects it; print scaled and it may not be.

Printing note. Set your print dialog to A4 and Actual size. If your software offers to scale the page to fit, decline — scaling is what turns a clean grid into a misread one.

How to use it

  1. Print one copy per student at 100% scale, single-sided.
  2. Have students fill in the header block first — name, date and class, and the Student ID grid if this sheet has one.
  3. For each question, fill one bubble completely. A half-filled bubble is a common cause of a mark being missed, and an X or a check mark can be another.
  4. Erase cleanly and completely. Smudged erasures can read as filled bubbles to a camera.
  5. Grade against an answer key — see the guide on making a test key overlay.

Frequently asked questions

A4 or US Letter — does it matter?

It matters for scale, not for correctness. Printing a Letter design onto A4 forces a rescale of about three percent, which can be enough to upset a camera grader. Choosing the A4 version keeps everything at 100%.

Can I print this on Letter paper?

You can, but the page will be reduced slightly to fit and the bubbles will shrink. Use the Letter version of this sheet for US paper.

Will my grading app accept an A4 sheet?

Many camera-based graders find the grid from the page itself, so paper size may not matter as long as the whole sheet is in frame and evenly lit, but that depends on the app and we have not tested any. Test with one sheet before grading a full set.

Do I need to sign up to download?

No. The file is a static PDF served straight from the page — no account, no email gate.

How can I tell my printer is set to A4?

In the print dialog, look at the paper size field: it should say A4 or 210 × 297 mm. If it says Letter, the printer will scale the page to fit and the grid will shrink.

Is there a 50- or 100-question A4 sheet?

A 100-question A4 sheet is in the library, and the generator builds any other length on A4. There is no ready-made A4 sheet for every count.
